Sompasauna is a free public sauna maintained by volunteers and the visitors themselves, currently located by the sea on Mustikkamaa island. It is one of Helsinki’s most informal and open saunas: entrance is free, the saunas are wood-heated and after a hot session you can plunge straight into the Baltic Sea. There is no staff, no conventional showers or changing rooms, but there are a few simple sauna cabins, basic changing areas, a dry toilet and lockers for those who bring their own lock.
