Founded in 1975, this children's theatre produces puppet and family theatre for children, toddlers and families, including baby and toddler shows. In its first thirty years it staged around seventy puppet productions, with puppet makers playing a key artistic role. It co-produced with the National Theatre from 1977 to 1999. Touring performances can be ordered for children's events, cultural centres, theatres, schools and day-care centres in Finland and abroad; the stage needs a darkened space of 6 m x 6 m with a room height of 2.60 m.
The theatre is housed in former wooden school buildings. The main building was converted for theatre use in 1980 and extended in 1991, and the main hall seats about 130. Galleria Hevosenkenkä, opened in 2000, shows changing exhibitions, and there is an outdoor café in season. Weekday shows include coffee and ice-cream service, and the weekend café serves before and after performances. Children's birthday parties can be held at the theatre. The car park, entrance, seating and toilet are accessible.
