This ethnographic museum is named after the philosopher Helinä Rautavaara (1928–1998), who documented different cultures and religions. It has a permanent collection exhibition and rotating exhibitions, and admission is free. Its mission is to increase global understanding and intercultural dialogue.
The museum offers guided tours and educational programmes for schools and educators, free social meetings for seniors, and concerts of world music traditions. There is a museum shop on site, and the museum publishes its own publications and online exhibitions. It is run by a foundation and located in the Entresse shopping centre. The car park, entrance and toilet are wheelchair accessible.
