The independent foundation manages and develops the biennial Millennium Technology Prize for technological innovations. Established in 2003, it awarded the first prize in 2004 and was founded by representatives of industry, academia and the state.
Universities, academies, research institutes and industrial enterprises can nominate candidates from any country. Selection proceeds through pre-selection and international committees to the foundation board. It also organises a young researchers' pitching contest and an international technology forum. Its location is at Aalto University, with an accessible entrance and parking.
