Designed by Raili and Reima Pietilä, the building was completed in 1966 as the Helsinki University of Technology student union house. It now serves as Aalto University's main building. The 2017 renovation restored original stairwells, roof windows and seven fireplaces. Its art collection follows the theme Radical Nature.
External users can hire event and conference spaces, including seated dinners for up to 1,000 guests. Restaurants, a café, gallery and rentable offices are housed inside. A virtual tour is available online. Geothermal heat covers about half the building's heating needs. Accessible parking and an accessible entrance are available.
