This folk high school was founded in 1896 on the Grundtvig model and stands in the town centre. It has no religious or political affiliation and offers vocational and liberal adult education. Vocational basic degrees are available in education and guidance and in library and information services. Finnish language and culture courses are offered to immigrants, with no prior Finnish required. There are roughly 300 students, and applications are open year-round.
Education, boarding and meals are free for students of the vocational basic degrees. Boarding accommodation and a lunch restaurant are in the historic Lönninkartano building. The car park and entrance are wheelchair accessible.
