This is the main church of the Hämeenlinna-Vanaja parish, standing beside the market square. The whitewashed brick church was completed in 1798 to designs by Louis Jean Desprez and is a landmark of Gustavian classicism in Finland. A bell tower was added in 1837 and wing sections in 1892, and the interior was renovated in 1912, 1964 and later. The Ladegast-style pipe organ, built in 2003 by Georges Heintz, has 36 stops, and the altarpiece by Alexsandra Ståltin was donated in 1892.
The church holds about 750 people and is used for ceremonies such as baptisms, weddings and funerals. Bookings are handled by the parish office, and a virtual tour is available online. The nave has an induction loop, and a wheelchair ramp is set up at the Hallituskatu entrance during events. The car park, entrance and toilet are wheelchair accessible.
