Founded in 1997, the company handles cargo and storage in the HaminaKotka port area. It processes over 35,000 containers a year, and about 100 staff look after more than 80,000 m² of indoor storage and 15 hectares of outdoor storage, with three kilometres of separate unloading tracks. At Mussalo port in Kotka it specialises in forest industry products, and its main long-term partner is Steveco Oy, Finland's largest port operator.
An electronic truck appointment system, TASS, is used at Hietanen, Mussalo and the port's other site for unloading and loading cargo. The company belongs to a group that also includes HMK-Logistics Oy (founded 2020) and Polartyö Oy (founded 2005), which have operated under one roof since 2023. Hietanen Cargo Service, an independent company within the group, bought part of the Hietanen business.
