The museum presents the history of the seven parishes of eastern Häme. It is owned by the Itä-Hämeen Museoyhdistys association, founded in 1928. It was set up by the writer Maila Talvio and opened in the Koskipää manor buildings in 1929. The collection holds about 30,000 objects, roughly a tenth of them on show in permanent exhibitions: manor culture, folk objects, a smoke sauna cottage and an agricultural museum.
Memorial rooms honour the writers Maila Talvio and Mika Waltari and the poet Uuno Kailas. The Vuoksenranta section tells of a lost municipality of Karelia. In summer there are rotating exhibitions, the Taidesalonki Talvio art space and guided cemetery walks. The Museum Card is accepted. There is a car park near the windmill, and an EV charging point at a café-restaurant about 480 m away. The toilet is wheelchair accessible.
