This is the third church on the site, built after the previous one burned down in 1887. It was designed by Josef Stenbäck, construction began in 1890 and it was consecrated in 1892. The altarpiece, Christ in Gethsemane, was painted by J. E. Kortmann in 1893 and is his only known altarpiece. The pulpit was made by carpenter Antti Huovinen and finished by Antti Kuvaja in 1891. The organ was acquired in 1906 from J. A. Zachariassen and rebuilt as a 33-stop instrument by the Kangasala organ factory in 1981. The bells date from 1756 and 1809 and survived the fire that destroyed the earlier church.
The church holds up to 1,600 people and can be hired for concerts, events and church ceremonies against a rental charge. Bookings go through the Liperi parish office. The car park, entrance and toilet are wheelchair accessible.
