The park borders the whole residential area in its local detailed plan. The seaside walking route is windy and very popular, and rose bushes grow along the paths; the yellow roses in the northern part are noted for their flowering. A fenced play area was turned into a lawn because of heavy use. Terrain shaping and plantings create sheltered spaces, and some seats have sea views.
The park was designed by the city's Building Department with landscape architect Lars Liljefors and completed in 1983. It covers 4.1 hectares. A deep shipping channel runs close to the southeast shore, which was built with large rounded stones because there was no room for a quay wall. Nearby are the Katajanokan Kasino restaurant, a winter swimming place and a guest harbour. The entrance is wheelchair accessible.
