In the pink Rantakasarmi building beside the main pier, the visitor centre has an exhibition introducing the UNESCO World Heritage site. A map brochure in nine languages covers services, history and sights. Construction of the sea fortress across six islands began under Augustin Ehrensvärd in 1748.
A digital guide is available in a browser or as a downloadable app. The centre offers wireless internet and a wheelchair-accessible entrance. The ferry waiting hall has public toilets and water-bottle refill points. Visitors can subscribe to a newsletter about services and events.
