The gallery presents the work of Yasushi Koyama, a Japanese sculptor and visual artist. He is known for cute, innocent and humorous animal sculptures, made mainly in wood and ceramic clay, and also in glass. He learned traditional wood sculpting in Finland, Japan, New Zealand and Romania, and the Finnish technique uses an axe and chisels.
Influences include Katja Tukiainen, Kim Simonsson, Yoshitomo Nara, and manga and anime. Public works include a wooden lion in the Jakobstad city library, and pieces are sold in the museum shops of Taidehalli, Kiasma and EMMA. The artist is a member of the Finnish Artist Association and the Finnish Designers' Association.
