Established in 1955 by industrial counsellor E. W. Åberg and Hedwig Åberg, the public-benefit foundation distributes grants, scholarships, subsidies and prizes. It supports research, culture, education, charity and war veterans.
Doctoral grants have a separate application round, while general grants have spring and autumn rounds. The foundation also runs a brewery museum opened in 1988 in the harbour's old customs building. The premises have an accessible entrance and car park.
