Part of the First Salpausselkä ridge, this delta formed through about 200 years of sediment deposition and shifts of the ice margin. The Greater Saimaa flood cut the Vuoksi outflow through the ridge about 5,700 years ago. Kettle holes lie in the southern terrace; moraine slopes are gentle to the northwest and steeper, often boulder-strewn, to the southeast.
A marked geological forest trail crosses the delta and marginal moraines. Information boards and QR codes at the school-area car park and along the route explain the formations and rock types. A route description is available on Outdoor Active.
