This neo-Gothic church with some Art Nouveau features was designed by Josef Stenbäck and is one of more than 30 by him. It has three towers, and the bell tower is 57 metres tall including a 4-metre cross. It was consecrated on 26 July 1903 and is the parish's third church on Louhela hill. It holds up to 900 people, with some seating on a second floor reached only by stairs. The church has an organ, a piano and a sound system.
The premises are used year-round and can be rented for concerts and events. In summer it is open to visitors as part of the national Tiekirkko network, with a guide present. Parking is by the roadside, directly in front of the church. Wheelchair users and people with strollers reach the main door by a gentle gravel path from Koulukatu, though the outer doors have a threshold and are heavy to open. A hearing loop, a defibrillator and a toilet are available.
