Erected in 1981, the memorial marks 200 years of local industrial history. Designed by sculptor and painter Jouko Solonen, its propeller and saw-blade forms refer to a water-powered sawmill. The rust layer acts as a patina and protects the surface from erosion.
It stands on the banks of the Pielisjoki at the original Utra water sawmill site and belongs to the municipal museums' public art collection. Access is wheelchair accessible. The area's industrial origins lie in sawmilling licensed in 1780.
