This stone Lutheran parish church was completed in 1863 after seven years of construction. The parish was founded in 1442, and earlier churches stood on the site of the old cemetery. The present building replaced a wooden church destroyed by a storm in 1729. An interior renovation in 1985 restored the original colour scheme and added a Baroque-style choir organ. A large French-Romantic organ from the German Paschen organ factory has been in use since 2003. The current altarpiece was donated by Bishop Alopaeus, and the ceiling chandeliers were made in St Petersburg for the University of Helsinki. The churchyard holds 409 war hero graves.
The church hosts regular music events, with a church choir, men's choir and chamber choir. Sunday services are streamed live on the parish YouTube channel. Access is nearly step-free, and there is a lift, an induction loop, an accessible toilet, accessible parking and a child-care room. Parking is available on both sides of the church.
