This women's choir was founded in 1952 and performs mainly newer Finnish and international women's choir repertoire alongside traditional works. It regularly commissions new pieces from Finnish composers and has held two composition competitions; the 2012 winner was written by the Swedish composer Staffan Storm. The choir has released five CDs, and its music is on Spotify and YouTube. The Finnish Women's Choir Association named it Choir of the Year 2024.
The choir rehearses weekly, organises singing camps and gives several concerts a year, on its own and with other choirs and orchestras. It is part of the local adult education centre programme, a registered association, and a member of the Finnish Women's Choir Association and Sulasol. The artistic director is Rita Varonen. New singers are usually recruited in autumn at the start of the adult education year, and the conductor assesses voice ranges.
