Wholly owned by the city, the energy company produces and sells district heat and sells and distributes natural gas. It was founded in 1982, began heat sales in 1983 and added natural gas in 1988. The Ranta-Koivisto bioheat plant was commissioned at the end of 2020.
The plant supplies homes and properties in the centre and Suorama. An on-call service operates outside weekday office hours and around the clock at weekends and on public holidays.
