Designed by Pauli Blomstedt, the functionalist church was completed in 1938 and consecrated by Bishop Aleksi Lehtonen on 9 June that year. Protected by the Finnish Heritage Agency, it is one of Finland's few functionalist churches built in the 1930s. A model and drawings were exhibited at the 1937 Paris World Exhibition. Inside is a crucifix carved by Hannes Autere in the 1930s, with seating for about 350 people.
Church ceremonies are booked through the Saarijärvi parish office. A sand-surfaced car park lies beside the church near the war graves. The entrance, toilet and parking area are wheelchair accessible.
