The rapids drop 9.8 metres between lakes Kannonjärvi and Kivijärvi in an Ice Age landscape. An export sawmill founded in 1836 operated here until about 1947. Most old structures have been removed, with pioneer trees and birch woods reclaiming the river canyon.
A signposted trail leads to the site, where an information board explains its history. Municipal directions recommend parking in a nearby yard and walking across the stream along a cottage road.
