Founded in 1908, the amateur theatre association stages work ranging from light comedy to drama, including plays by local writers. Activity has continued since its founding apart from a few years in the 1960s and 1970s. Since its revival in the 1970s, it has generally staged at least one premiere a year.
Performers come from varied professional backgrounds, and productions largely use the association's own skills apart from the director. New members join as generations change. The association also runs the Lydia V music project and a theatre-building project.
