Founded in 1983, the museum occupies Kurt Koskinen's former salting building in the old fishing harbour. Around 30 late-19th-century fish sheds remain, with net-drying racks visible on the slope. Themes include herring, whitefish and salmon fishing, stream fishing and seal hunting.
Displays include objects from fishermen's homes and shore sheds, together with many photographs. Herring fishing receives the most space as a former main livelihood. Accessible parking is available.
