The museum is a municipal museum run by the city. Roosin talo offers a merchant home setting with a permanent exhibition on 19th-century town life. Other year-round sites are the Exhibition Hall, Lassanderin talo and Pedagogio, and the museum also looks after a British landing boat, the Lohtaja local heritage museum, the Tankar seal hunting museum and the home of Fredrik and Anna Draken.
The museum quarter has free admission and changing exhibitions. Guided tours of the exhibitions are offered in Swedish, and group visits and guided programmes are available. The museum also provides collection services and acts as the regional responsibility museum for cultural environments. The entrance is wheelchair accessible.
