The club was founded in 1953 and, according to its website, is the only wrestling-specialist club in the town. As of 2016 it had over 200 paying members and more than 100 wrestling licence holders. Its junior work is strong and has produced many Finnish national youth championship medals. Former members have represented the club at the Olympics and World Championships, and it has won over twenty Finnish men's championships.
It was chosen Youth Sports Club of the Year in Kymenlaakso in 2006 and has hosted the Finnish under-18 freestyle wrestling championships in 2004 and the school sports federation championships in 2013. Training groups include beginners' wrestling and a wrestling school, and the club holds an annual general meeting.
