The upper secondary school is housed in a historic school building from 1924 in the city centre. Its roots lie in a private girls' school founded in 1879 and taken over by the state in 1886. It became co-educational in 1973, and the upper secondary section received its present name in 1975. There is a wide choice of optional courses, with international courses, projects and study trips. A business line has been available since autumn 2022, and the school has been a UNESCO school since 1984 and holds a sustainable development certificate.
Students are supported by study counselling and student welfare services. The school publishes an annual report and a study guide, and holds parent evenings and open house events for 9th graders. Adult upper secondary education was moved under the Taidelukio administration and premises in autumn 2022. The car park and entrance are wheelchair accessible.
