Founded in 1916, the adult education institute offers around 2,200 courses across eleven subject areas, including sport, art, languages, crafts and wellbeing. It began as a workers' institute attached to a library and also teaches in Kaavi, Rautavaara and Tuusniemi.
Its main premises and customer service are in a former brick barracks building. Register through the online store, at customer service or by phone. Rooms can be hired for meetings and training. The entrance, toilet and some seating are wheelchair accessible.
