Established in 1983, the 1.05-hectare reserve surrounds an Ice Age kettle lake formed by a melting buried ice block on Salpausselkä ridge. Natural overgrowth has reduced open water to around 0.2 hectares. Bog plants include sedges, cranberry and cotton-grass; animals include frogs, smooth newts, pike, rudd and many invertebrates.
A jetty extends over the lake. The site is near the ski jumping hills in the sports and recreation area, within walking or cycling distance of the market square. Collecting water insects or plants, taking or damaging dead wood and building huts are prohibited. Mallard and garganey have nested here, with reed and forest birds nearby.
