This Lutheran church belongs to the Taipale parish and is the third on the site; earlier churches were built in 1668 and 1688. The present wooden church was built in 1786 by Juhana Salonen of Savitaipale and is a cross-plan church with oblique arms. The centre of the cross is covered by a multi-form vault, and the clover-leaf ceiling vault is an art-historical rarity. The altarpiece was painted in 1925 by the locally born Antti Muukka, and a crystal chandelier from the early 1800s, a gift from Saint Petersburg, hangs in the centre.
The church was restored in 1969 under architect Juha Leiviskä. The organ, built in 1988 by Matti Erola's organ workshop, has 22 stops, two manuals and a pedalboard. Visits and bookings are arranged by appointment through the parish's service points. The car park, entrance and toilet are wheelchair accessible.
