This gorge in Mustinmäki village is about 200 m long and nearly 20 m deep, with vertical walls. A spring flows along the bottom, and snow and ice linger there until June. The Geological Survey of Finland lists the gorge valley among nationally valuable geological nature sites, and it is part of the Savo Seven Wonders tourism theme. A marked nature trail of about 7 km leads to it.
The route starts from the Mustinmäki village hall, with an alternative parking spot on Hanhiahontie. There are no safety railings at the edge, and the floor of the gorge is partly rough terrain with boulders. The lean-to by the pond has firewood, and it is a good place to grill sausages. There is no path in winter, so the gorge is reached on snowshoes. Trail maps are available in Finnish, English and Russian. The entrance is not wheelchair accessible.
