This red-brick neo-Gothic church was built in 1862–1865 to designs by the architect G.T. Chiewitz, after the earlier wooden church was destroyed in the 1855 town fire. It is 54 metres high, with a cross alone of 4 metres, and seats up to 800 people. Some items saved from the fire are displayed in the new church, including an old altarpiece, a crucifix, a bell and a brass chandelier from the vestry. It belongs to the Finnish-language Agricola parish.
Concerts, church services and organ recitals are held here, and groups can book visits through the parish secretary; the admission charge collected from visitors goes to church repairs. The premises are almost barrier-free, with an induction loop, a play corner and space for strollers. The parking area is in front of the church, and the car park, entrance and toilet are wheelchair accessible.
