The memorial marks the last local battle of the Finnish Civil War, fought at Kiurulan kangas on 1 May 1918. The local Civil Guard erected it on the battlefield in the 1930s. It is part of a group of 17 historical monuments in the area.
The site occupies a narrow strip between the railway and the main road and has an accessible entrance. The main library holds literature about the area's wartime history.
