This is the only Finnish-language primary school in the town, teaching grades 1–6 and a pre-primary group. Teaching is in combined classes: 1–2, 3–4 and 5–6. The school has its own special education for ages 0–6 and grades 1–6, and it offers before- and after-school activities and pupil welfare services.
The building is shared with the Swedish-language Zachariasskolan, with teachers and some facilities in common. Fifth and sixth graders take elective subjects in joint groups with the Swedish-language school. School meals are served, and the menu states that only Finnish meat is used and marks gluten-free, dairy-free, lactose-free, low-lactose, sugar-free and vegetarian options. The school works closely with the parents' association Sakariaksen Enkelit ja Vintiöt ry. The car park and entrance are wheelchair accessible.
