The present wooden church dates from 1753, and the first church on the same site was built in 1682. It is the oldest church in the Kalajoki deanery and the Pyhäjoki valley. It seats up to 550 people including the organ gallery, and the bells ring from a bell tower next to the church. It hosts services, a church choir, a children's choir and concerts such as Mozart's Requiem.
Access is step-free and there is an induction loop for hearing aids. An accessible toilet is available and a defibrillator is on site. Parking is directly from the road, shared with cemetery and chapel visitors.
