Founded in 1980, the volunteer sea rescue association belongs to the Finnish Sea Rescue Society. It carries out rescue and assistance work in the Bothnian Bay between Ii and Hailuoto, towing boats disabled by grounding or engine failure, helping authorities with searches and providing medical transport at sea. Its vessels carry portable firefighting equipment for cooperation with the rescue service.
The harbour base has an AV-equipped training room for 10–16 people, a sauna area and overnight rooms for 16. The non-profit operation relies on unpaid volunteers and is funded mainly through membership fees, donations, fundraising and compensation for tasks.
