The house, over a century old, serves as a local environmental association's base, exhibition space and café. Since 1993 the association has maintained the Askalankoski traditional meadow landscape through two annual volunteer camps. Summer work includes fence repairs and mowing; autumn work burns hay and prepares the site for winter.
Activities include bird and bat walks, nest-box work days and owl trips. The house opens on summer Sundays. Parking is beside the tall power plant building, about 100 m from the house across a suspension bridge.
