Established as an independent association in 1963, the wildlife management association covers about 113,900 hectares north of Lake Oulujärvi. Duties include assisting hunting supervision, damage assessments and the annual elk hunting plan. It also provides hunter training, certification courses, advice and youth activities.
The association operates a shooting range and a 3D archery range and provides large-game assistance. Membership is voluntary, and a person can belong to only one wildlife management association.
