The lookout tower stands beside a wetland in the Putronjoki catchment area, near Lake Simpelejärvi. The wetland, built in January 2023, is meant to reduce nutrient runoff from the surrounding farmland into the ditch water. It has two multi-level basins and wood-bundle small-scale treatment structures, and a smaller biodiversity pond was added nearby later.
The landowner, Sami Kokkonen, built the tower and a shelter by the wetland. The tower is set on a slope about 200 metres from the wetland so that birds can nest undisturbed. Both stand on private land, and visitors climb the tower at their own risk. Access to the wetland itself requires the landowner's permission, as it lies on farmland.
