The museum is in the birthplace cottage of President Urho Kekkonen, a croft built in the mid-1800s. The Kekkonen family moved in in 1900 and lived there until the end of 1906. The Lepikko Foundation bought the cottage in 1966, and it was restored under the National Board of Antiquities to its early 1900s appearance with period furnishings. Some of the objects on display belonged to the Kekkonen family. The museum opened on 3 September 1966, the president's birthday.
It is open to visitors in summer. A café shop attached to it also runs in summer only, and group tickets are available for groups of 30 people. An accessible toilet is available.
