Part of the University of Turku's medical education, the unit teaches general practice, surgery and dermatology. Medical students first examine patients independently and discuss findings with the supervising physician, who remains responsible for care. Minor procedures are practised with a teaching surgeon; a camera-equipped room lets other students observe.
The unit is on the university centre campus, on the health station's second floor. Final-year placements last two weeks, supported by two clinical teachers and a teaching nurse. The entrance and parking area are wheelchair accessible. Local medical teaching began in 2003 and moved under one roof in 2005.
