Built in 1994 at the Mustijoki waterworks weir, the fish pass resembles a natural rapid. It rises 2.5 metres over about 50 metres, with five thresholds and boulder-filled pools. The design lets fish ascend even at low flows.
Its entrance is close to the weir to help migrating fish find it. At least 18 species have been recorded using the pass, including lamprey, salmon, brown trout, perch and vimba. It was built by the Helsinki water and environment district with partner funding.
