This 13 km hiking trail runs through the ridge landscape of the Saimaa Geopark and can also be walked in shorter sections. It presents the nature and geology of Lake Saimaa: rocky cliffs, sandy beaches, sinkholes and ancient shoreline terraces. The area emerged from under the continental ice sheet during the Saimaa ice-lake phase about 11,500 years ago, and the bedrock includes mica gneiss and granite pegmatite.
The trail is marked with Saimaa Geopark signposts and has swimming and campfire sites. An accessible lean-to shelter, the Norppa-laavu, stands along the route, and the art trail has eight stations linking landscape paintings to geology. There are three starting points with parking: the harbour and lift tower, Kitulanniemi crossroads and Kaivanto. The car park and entrance are wheelchair accessible.
