The museum is housed in the former customs and warehouse building completed in 1848. Its exhibitions present life in the sailing ship era, and the collections include a notable group of 17th-century church sculptures. It is part of a museum group with seven museum sites in total.
The museum is open year-round together with Kruununmakasiinimuseo, and it hosts exhibitions and special events such as baroque concerts. Guided visits and group visits are offered, and school groups visit as part of cultural trails. The website is available in Finnish, English and Swedish. The car park is wheelchair accessible, but there is no hearing loop or accessible seating.
