Built in 1896–1897, the stone arch bridge replaced earlier wooden bridges on the same site. The route changed from a highway to a local road in the late 1960s. The bridge area became a road museum site in 1984 and is nationally listed as such.
Since the mid-1970s, it has been used only by pedestrians and cyclists.
