The village association provides information about a rural community of around 100 residents on Lake Ylä-Nurmesjärvi. Farming, forestry and services support local livelihoods, and the village has fibre broadband. Settlement traces date to the Stone Age; its school, founded in 1887, closed in spring 2011.
The association sells a village history book and shares information about privately owned building plots. A service directory lists local skills, and fishing permits are available through kalapaikka.net. A defibrillator is mounted on the village hall's outer wall.
