This cylindrical, roofed lookout tower stands on the western slope of Ounasvaara hill in a pine forest, about 160 m above sea level. Stairs lead to the viewing platform via an intermediate landing, with views over the city centre and the Kemijoki river. A log-built lean-to shelter with a fireplace and firewood storage stands next to the tower.
It is an easy destination, reached by several walking routes, including the Ounasvaara summer and winter walking trails. In winter you can get there on foot or by snowshoe along the winter trail. Parking is at the Ounasvaara hut car park, followed by a signposted walk of about 900 m. The entrance and car park are not wheelchair accessible.
