This multidisciplinary University of Lapland unit researches northern politics, communities, global change and a just green transition. Its science communication makes research available to the public and policymakers, and it publishes an annual report and a blog.
It is based in Arktikum on the Ounasjoki riverbank. The building's science centre explores northern contrasts from polar night to midnight sun and shares the building with the Lapland Provincial Museum. A library specialising in northern topics is open to everyone. The entrance and car park are wheelchair accessible.
