The local heritage association was founded in 1915 after preparatory efforts beginning in 1912. Founding figures included Alexander Aminoff, Gerhard Väinönheimo and Iisakki Piirto. Its work covers museums, memorials, the local national costume and traditional church boats.
The association publishes and sells local heritage material. Its website includes a photo gallery, Christmas material, officers' contact details and membership registration.
