The museum is in the cottage of weaver Hilda Runni, where the poet Kaarlo Sarkia lived as an orphan from the age of 14 under her care. The Sarkia Society bought the cottage in April 1959 and restored it as a museum. Exhibits include the poet's typewriter, his mother's spinning wheel and a plaster sculpture, Ajattelija, by Anja Aho. The building was restored with volunteer work, and the Kiikka Lions Club restored the old cowshed.
A statue of Sarkia by Kauko Räikkö, from 1959, stands on the site, unveiled in 1960. A roughly 3 km Sarkia trail with poem plaques, dating from 1989, runs near the museum. The car park is wheelchair accessible.
